Harry's Hofbrau was always a great place for the family and friends to get together, Harry's was there all of my life. A great tradition has gone by the way side, seeing how I moved to Oklahoma 29 years ago it's been 10 years since we were there last

Horrors! Sadness! Shock! Harry's Hofbrau on Saratoga Avenue in San Jose is closing! The last dinner is on Tuesday 8 January 2019. The iconic restaurant will be torn down for some new development and the property owners did not renew the restaurant's lease. Terrible! It has been there for 42 years! We have been eating here for many years and enjoyed it every time. The selection of different meats in various forms has always been great and tasty. We found out about the closing from my daughter who lives near Seattle!!! (She has been eating at Harry's since she was a baby!). She told us today, Monday 7 January. My wife, my son, and I immediately went there for a last dinner. We arrived at around 5:30 pm and found a long line for food. By the time we got our food at the cafeteria style counter, and found a table, the line had tripled in size. The word was getting out and the fans were coming for a last great dinner at Harry's. Even though they are closing at the end of tomorrow night, the food was plentiful, delicious, and a wide selection was offered. We each had the Roast Beef Dinner ($15.74), which included two large slabs of delicious, perfectly cooked rare roast beef, mashed potatoes and fantastic gravy, a choice of side dish (we each had the wonderful red cabbage), and a roll. We also got a Beer Braised Brisket dinner ($13.89) to go, so we could have some more tomorrow. There are still two remaining Harry's Hofbrau locations: Redwood City and San Leandro. I hope that they can reopen this one somewhere closer near San Jose. Many of the customers were angry that the City of San Jose did not act to preserve the restaurant from development.
